Show Crew Network and CAPS Universal Payroll Team Up to Help Producers Meet Needs and Face New Challenges
Show Crew Network and CAPS Universal Payroll have announced their intention to offer CAPS Employer of Record payroll services via Show Crew Network's custom web app which provides a fully automated system for finding, scheduling and paying crew.

CHICAGO, IL, June 18, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Responding to client demand and new legislation/enforcement regarding the classification of independent contractors, Show Crew Network and CAPS Universal Payroll have announced their intention to offer CAPS Employer of Record payroll services via Show Crew Network's custom web app which provides a fully automated system for finding, scheduling and paying crew for events, shoots and tours-in real time!
"Since we launched Show Crew Network in late 2009 we have had a huge demand to expand our payment system to offer an integrated payroll and workman's compensation solution- by teaming up with CAPS. we are able to extend this option to our users" says Ian Price, Chief Operations Officer. The companies intend to seamlessly integrate the option to pay hired crew as W-2 employees of CAPS Universal Payroll, into the Show Crew Network web application thereby providing companies with a broad set of cost cutting and time saving tools as well as a means of paying crew who are not independent contractors. CAPS will be responsible for all reporting and tax filings, as well as administering unemployment and workers compensation claims. From a user's perspective, the payroll system will be simple and easy to use making short work of the payroll process. In addition, for producers utilizing union labor, CAPS Universal Payroll will calculate, process and remit union fringe benefits per specific union agreements. An added benefit of using the payroll option is that it will help companies maintain HR compliance in a world where state and federal scrutiny is at an all time high, especially in regards to wage/labor law. It will also enable companies to hire crew that are not independent contractors as employees of CAPS Universal thereby eliminating potential independent contractor misclassification- an issue that has recently become a hot topic with costly consequences.

"While it has always been a problem, recent scrutiny by both state and federal government make it clear that there is significant risk in paying some freelancers as independent contractors. Congress is considering bills that would create penalties from $1100 to $5000 per misclassified worker. The IRS has announced that they will be auditing 6000 small to medium sized companies on this issue. States have already enacted penalties as high as $300 per day worked per misclassified worker. State and federal governments believe that there is a significant "Tax Gap" which results in their being shortchanged and they want their money" says Carl Zucker, VP of Sales.

"While we have been providing services to many AEG venues, numerous music tours and
stagers, we've been looking for opportunities to further expand our presence in the staging
industry. We see Show Crew Network as a perfect way to achieve that."

The companies are currently in the process of developing the interface to CAPS' Employer of Record payroll service and expect the service to be available Q3 2010.
